It can be hard to find reason to get outside in the winter, but the next few days will bring an amazing meteor shower that will last for a few days. We're not big on astronomy, but apparently there is a thing called "rock comet" headed our way that should provide lots to look at. Basically this is a comet that comes by periodically in its elliptical orbit, and as it travels near the sun the heat causes debris to fall off that enters our atmosphere at about 80,000 mph - causing it to burn up and give us beautiful shooting stars! Pretty cool stuff. It is starting right now and continues to Dec 15th, but the peak should be the night of the 13th. So if you are blessed with clear skies, get out and watch! More details can be found at the International Dark Skies Association website. |
