Why you should make time for the Denver Botanic Gardens in November

Hey Colorado friends, you might wonder why I would be here promoting a visit to the Denver Botanic Gardens in November-I mean, the summer blooms are withered and gone, the fall colors have, well, fallen.  Isn't a garden in November one of the most pathetic and depressing places to be?  I'm here to give you three great reasons why you need to go visit the Denver Botanic Gardens this November.

1.  It is a quick and easy way to get your kids outside still.  There are fun paths and passageways for kids to enjoy.  Botanic Gardens are NOT boring, as much as your kids might think so.

2.  Better yet, FREE DAYS!!!  That's right.  We've got 2 free days coming up.  Thanks in part to The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District we can access the gardens for free on certain days (btw, we just went to a free day a the Denver Zoo sponsored by the SCFD and they do free days at the Museum of Nature and Science too).  The free days coming up are Friday November 14th and Saturday November 15th.  If getting in free isn't reason enough to go, see reason 3.

3.  Through November you can still see the amazing installations by glass artist Dale Chihuly.  If you don't know Chihuly you need to.  If you do know of Chihuly I don't need to say more.  However, a picture or two might help out here.  Here are just a few photos from a recent girls only trip my mom, mom-in-law and I took (we are taking the kids on one of the free days).
Chihuly's work is seriously amazing.  This is so perfect for kids.  It is like exploring an enchanted and magical garden on a huge scale.  There is no way your kids won't enjoy this!

So you know, there is a long video (about 35 minutes, made up of about 8 sections) available to view at the gardens.  However, there is really minimal seating.  I recommend using a video from youtube with your kids ahead of time.  The way he works is really interesting and worth seeing on a video.  It will really enhance your visit.  Below is a pretty good short video.  On a side note, boys will love this form of art because there is a lot of fire so don't be afraid to get your boys in on this!
If you want more depth or find your kids want to know more you can go to youtube and search on Dale Chihuly and find many more videos, some as long and 20-30 minutes. (As always with youtube, there is the possibility of ads in front of the video and any search should be checked out by a parent first).
So there you have it:  3 awesome reasons to get out to the Denver Botanic Gardens this November.  No excuses, GO.OUTSIDE.NOW!

What a wonderful article on a different view of getting outdoors. It looks like a super stepping off point for initial outdoor experiences. Also, for the kids and parents where great difficlties lie in getting farther outdoors... difficulties such as , transportation, personal disabilities, time difficulties, etc....
great suggestion and blog.
